Walkers, joggers, strollers, and cyclists can use the Marcia Cloninger Rail Trail to stretch their legs and relax their minds. The trail runs from Motz Ave. to City Park, and is approximately 1.7 miles in length (one way). The trail connects Betty G. Ross Park, First Federal Park, and City Park.
The trail features a mural depicting a railroad scene including a train engine and two rail cars containing a groundhog kiln and a textile loom. The subject matter highlights the historical significance of the railroad, traditional Catawba Valley pottery, and textile manufacturing in Lincoln County. It was designed and executed by Gastonia native Tyler Hobson.
